PREPARATION / Reference Guide

Eligibility / Documents

The following is Singapore General preparation reference only; this does not replace any bank’s official application checklist. Acceptance, additional document requests and approval are determined independently by the bank.

Basic Eligibility

Preparation reference: First verify the legal entity and licence category in MAS FID. This list only indicates banking entities regulated by MAS; it does not mean that every individual, nonresident or company can open an ordinary account.

Address and Identity Documents

Preparation reference: Prepare proof of current residential address in line with the bank’s application form. DBS lists examples including utility or telecommunications bills, local bank or credit card statements, and employer or school letters, and requires the name and address to match the application. Confirm the accepted document types and date requirements with the relevant bank.

Personal application documents

Preparation reference: Individuals generally prepare a valid passport or applicable identification such as an NRIC/FIN, and declare all tax-residency jurisdictions and applicable TINs as required by the bank. An S Pass, Myinfo or Singpass may be accepted as verification material by some banks or in certain processes or for certain applicants only; this should not be generalized.

Company application documents

Preparation reference: Companies may prepare a company account application form, board resolution, certificate of incorporation, ACRA Business Profile, constitution, and proof of identity and address for directors, signatories and UBOs. Banks may request additional documents on a case-by-case basis.

Document and Process Consultation

Preparation reference: First contact the selected bank directly to confirm that the product is available to applicants based on their place of residence, entity type, business activity and application channel, then submit documents and cooperate with identity checks and customer due diligence.Online, video, or in-branch signing applies only where the bank offers that method and you meet the eligibility requirements. GoBusiness says that most banks usually require account signatories and most directors to sign in Singapore; some banks may offer other arrangements for signing at overseas branches or before a notary. Please confirm the details with the bank you intend to use.

If you need help checking document consistency or understanding the process, first tell Drew about the account applicant, intended account use and points to confirm; a consultation does not replace bank approval.

Selection Criteria

Selected from the MAS regulatory directory: 50 banking entities—6 local banks, 10 Qualifying Full Banks, 20 Full Banks and 14 Wholesale Banks; representative offices and Merchant Banks are excluded. Wholesale or institutional banks should not be treated as ordinary retail banks, and personal or any company account availability cannot be inferred from the licence name.

[1][2][3] Complete MAS Banking bank licence categories: 152 banking entities, with a further 27 representative offices listed separately; as of 2026-10-26.

Important Notes

  • Banks must conduct risk assessments, due diligence on customers and beneficial owners, periodic account reviews and monitoring for suspicious transactions, and may therefore request additional documents or decline to accept an application. Third parties can assist only with documents and communications and cannot guarantee approval.
  • Of these 50, 14 are wholesale banks included to complete the count; wholesale/institutional banks should not be described as ordinary retail banks, and no eligibility for personal or any company account should be assumed.
  • This list excludes representative offices and merchant banks. Names and licence categories in the MAS FID do not necessarily indicate deposit products, eligibility for remote account opening or account approval.
  • All fees, account limits and processing times are subject to written confirmation by the target bank; making an appointment or submitting an application does not constitute approval or guarantee that an account will be opened.
